Class Descriptions
Shimmy to be Fit (Belly Fitness):
All level cardio fitness class. Join us as we shimmy our way into a healthy new us. If you are looking for a great no impact cardio program that will get your heart rate up and is easy on your joints then Shimmy to be Fit is for you. In this class we will cover safe dance posture and movements that will help strengthen every part of our bodies! No previous dance experience is required. This class will not only allow you to work your body and help you in reaching your fitness goals it will help boost your confidence and self-esteem.
Belly Dance Foundations (Belly Basics): 6 week SERIES $60
This class is a technique oriented class that covers the core moves of middle eastern dance. Students will learn the various types of hip shimmy’s, arm movements, rib movements and basic traveling steps. This class will focus on isolation movements as well as short combination of movements. In this class the student will learn the various rhythms of this art form and the patterns associated with those rhythms. The student will also be introduced to various props used in middle eastern dance such as the zil’s (zagats – aka finger cymbals) and the veil. By the end of this session students will have learned specific terminology associated with this dance as well short combinations to aid them in their daily practice.
Class Length:
Each class is 1 1/2 hours in length and includes a warm up and cool down portion. This is an 6 to 8 week progressive class that is offered twice per year. This class will be announced 1 month before the start of the series. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Space is limited so register early!
Mixed level class:
This class is a technique oriented class that takes the moves we learned in the Beginners classes and adds lovely luscious layers. Using a variety of music from around the world we will dig deeper and let go. This is a choreography based class, one class builds on upon the other so drop-ins are not permitted.
Belly Tot's
This class is for younglings 3 and 4 years old. In this class your little ones will explore movement using music from around the world, stimulating their imagination through games and playtime. This class will help them understand the dance classroom setting, improving social skills and fine motor skills all while having fun.
Children's 1 (Pre-K - 2nd grade); Children's 2 (3rd - 5th)
(Hip Belly Princesses)
These class are for elementary students K through 5th grade with the focus on fun and sassy moves. Using music from around the world the students with come together to dance and play all while building their self confidence, self-esteem and a positive body all while having a good time time with their friends. In this class students will be introduced to the various props that are used in American Belly Dance, including zils, canes, and veils. Let's get together and use our creativity and play :) Student's in the Children's 2 class will be required to purchase a set of zils for class. Please see the resource section for more information.
Youth Belly Dance 6th - 8th grade (Hip Hop/Hip Drop)
Come out and try a new style of dance that incorporates traditional Raqs Sharqi vocabulary and music, with a modern twist. Introduction to Wings, Veils, Fan veils and other exciting props. Meet new friends and dance together! This class also introduces creating personal choreography as well as continuing the education of rhythms and more advanced zil technique!!!!
Hip Belly Fusion 9th - 12th grade

Attire for ALL classes:
Be Comfy! No jeans, mini skirts, or street clothes; also no baggy T-shirts, or long skirts. Exercise/Yoga/Dance unitards, or leggings with a Tee or Tank or sports bra/top that can show lower back position, bare feet, socks or dance shoes. NO STREET SHOES. Also, a scarf or shawl to tie low around your hips is very useful for you to see hip movements in the mirror. (A limited number of scarves will be made available to borrow.)
